Girl Almighty Teen Girls Fitness Program
A brand new fitness program for teen girls.
Healthworks Community Fitness (HCF) is partnering with Boston Children’s Hospital’s Division of Adolescent Medicine to launch the pilot referral program Girl Almighty.
Girl Almighty is a 4-week comprehensive fitness training program for teen girls (ages 13-18) from Dorchester, Roxbury and Mattapan who are at risk for chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and obesity. The program will sponsor 310 teen girls, providing them with the education and tools they need to sustain a healthier lifestyle.
Girl Almighty is a collaboration between HCF and Boston Children’s Hospital’s Division of Adolescent Medicine. BCH serves as a referral source for some of the participants in the GA Program. The rest are existing HCF members.

After being an urban public high school educator for the last 8 years, Darcel Hunt-Finegold is currently the Fitness Director at Healthworks Community Fitness in Dorchester. She is a NASM certified personal trainer and holds specializations in Fitness Nutrition, Weight loss, and Youth Exercise. She is also a Beachbody Live instructor for such popular formats as Insanity Live, PiYo Live, and CIZE Live. Currently she is working towards the AFAA Group Exercise certification. During the winter marathon training season, Darcel volunteers with Dreamfar High School Marathon as a mentor and training partner to local high school students as they train to run the Providence Marathon.
GIBBS J. SAUNDERS
Gibbs Jennifer Saunders has been a leader in the fitness industry for over 20 years. Gibbs has her Master’s degree in Exercise Physiology from Columbia University. Most recently, she specialized in youth fitness strategies and was the sole consultant for the State of New Mexico Healthy Kids program which was a state-wide physical activity initiative to fight childhood obesity. At the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, she served as the Fitness & Wellness Department Chair of which she developed, taught and implemented academic fitness education strategies for the college.
Currently, as the Managing Director at Healthworks Community Fitness, Gibbs has launched aggressive programming with an evidence-based approach including Fitspiration! (youth wellness) and Woman, Be Fit (physical activity and nutrition intervention program for women) both of which have brought validity and acclaim to an organization that has been recognized by Boston’s mayor for innovation in health care and reached over 350 individuals in the last year. Additionally, her approach of teaching holistic fitness integrates the relationship between a fit body and self-sufficient empowered lifestyle. Finally, Gibbs’ ability to develop and cultivate partnerships has brought new funding and dynamic partners such as The Daily Table, Boston Public Schools and the Harvard JFK School of Government to Healthworks Community Fitness. The Girl Almighty Program, a collaboration with Boston Children’s Hospital exists currently as a pilot program under her leadership.
Healthworks Community Fitness was recently featured in an Associated Press article that hit several national media outlets, including USA Today, The Washington Post, The Boston Globe and The Huffington Post.
